  • Goedhuis, December 2016

Full and concentrated, with striking aromas of liquorice, dark chocolate and blackcurrants. Richly mouth-coating, with volume and juicy sweetness. The firm ripe tannins are almost disguised by the glorious breadth of fruit. This will give an extraordinary amount of pleasure and is distinctly grand cru.

  • Neal Martin, December 2016, Score: 90-92

The 2015 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru includes 40% whole bunch this year and that lends complexity on the nose with brambly black fruit, briary and touches of undergrowth. The palate is medium-bodied with a structured, slightly tough opening. It is very structured with firm tannin, very saline in the mouth with a muscular finish that will soften with requisite bottle age. It is a fine Bonnes-Mares, but I know it can be even better. • Burghound, January 2017, Score: 92-95

Once again reduction largely dominates the nose though discreet floral nuances are perceptible. There is excellent size, weight and concentration to the overtly powerful big-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract that helps to buffer the considerable tannic spine shaping the youthfully austere, serious and built-to-age finale. In a word, impressive. (92-95)/2032+

They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.Read less
