Neal Martin, December 2016, Score: 94-96
The 2015 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is matured in one-third new oak and includes 80% whole bunch fruit. It has a "serious" bouquet compared to plenty of others that I encountered, more introverted and saturnine, but powerful with layers of blackberry and bilberry fruit mixed with undergrowth and woodland scents. The palate is medium-bodied with strict tannin. This feels solid and linear, with chalky tannin and a crisp line of acidity. It is not the flamboyant or extrovert Bonnes-Mares that Groffier has produced in the past—this is impressive, perhaps uncompromising, built for the long-term and therefore it will require 8-10 years of bottle age. Serious. Drink 2027-2052

Stephen Tanzer, November 2017, Score: 94
Bright ruby-red. Very rich, deep, youthful aromas of black cherry, blackberry and licorice. Hugely dense and thick (there's more clay and sand in this soil in this soil than in the Amoureuses), but its dark fruit flavors are energized by strong minerality. Tactile wine with plenty of acidity and lift, not to mention strong dry extract and building sweetness--not sign of hydric stress here! Really glistens on the back end, with ripe tannins saturating the entire palate. This wine should enjoy a long life in bottle but even today it's demonstrating a lot of personality. The Groffier 2015s stand out for their minerality in this very ripe year--and Nicolas Groffier noted that alcohol levels in these wines are not higher than about 13%.

Bonnes Mares
Perched between Morey-St-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny in the heart of the Cotes de Nuits this Grand Cru appellation can balance the best characteristics of both. Bonnes Mares wines combine fragrance and femininity with body and power. A seductive combination indeed.
