  • Wine Advocate, December 2016, Score: 91-93

The 2015 Mazoyeres-Chambertin Grand Cru has a very intense bouquet with black cherry, red plum and mineral notes, orange sorbet and a touch of orange blossom. The palate is stocky and dense with firm tannin, plenty of sinewy black and red fruit with a dense, quite grippy finish. I would just like a little more finesse on the finish, but that will develop with time and this may warrant a higher score.

(one of three barrels was new): Bright, dark red. Distinctly dark, slightly high-toned aromas of blackberry, blueberry liqueur and licorice convey a medicinal reserve along with an impression of full ripeness. Juicy but youthfully imploded and in need of a racking, with black fruit and violet flavors coming across as very ripe. Finishes with substantial broad tannins. Richer and riper than the 2013 version but distinctly darker in its fruit character and perhaps less sophisticated.
