  • Goedhuis, December 2016

A flamboyant wine with dark Black Forest fruit aromas. This has the lusciousness of Bonnes Mares, but with a little more subtlety and refinement. As Philippe says it is very “gourmand”. The texture of the fruit and its depth swallow up the tannins to create a layered and very complex wine. Top class.

  • Neal Martin, December 2016, Score: 94-96

The 2015 Musigny Grand Cru is matured in two new barrels. It has a very intense bouquet with dark cherries, Griottes, cold stone and blood orange notes that are extremely well defined and fresh. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, very saline so that the front of the tongue tingles with pleasure, but there is enormous structure on the back palate, its weight affirming that this is a long-term proposition that will need 8-10 years in bottle. This is a majestic Musigny. Drink Date 2023 - 2050

  • Burghound, January 2017, Score: 93-95

This possesses the most elegant and perhaps the most complex nose in the range with its wonderfully broad-ranging mix of spices, Asian-style tea, sandalwood and dark berry-suffused aromas. There is equally kaleidoscopic breadth to the muscular yet seductive and highly refined flavors that deliver super power with absolutely no sense of weight or heaviness, all wrapped in a punchy precise and hugely long finish. This is sheer class in a glass with outstanding development potential. Don't miss! (93-95)/2032+

This substantial Gevrey Chambertin domaine is under the guardianship of a collaborative family team: parents Christine and Philippe, and children Caroline and Nicolas. They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.Read less

Region

Le Musigny

Le Musigny is a red Grand Cru vineyard based in Burgundy’s Chambolle Musigny village in the Côte de Nuits. Le Musigny is situated between the scrubland at the top of the slope and the upper section of Clos de Vougeot on well-draining limestone soil. The wines of Le Musigny are some of the best in Burgundy on a par with those of Romanée Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze.
