Château le Pape
Nestled in the heart of Bordeaux’s esteemed Pessac-Léognan appellation, Château Le Pape boasts a rich heritage dating back to its construction in 1805 by master sailmaker Pierre Bobineau. Over the centuries, the estate has been home to various artists and painters, adding to its cultural legacy.
The château presides over nine hectares of meticulously maintained vineyards, predominantly planted with Merlot (80%) and complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon (20%). The vines, averaging 28 years in age, thrive in gravelly soils interspersed with sand and clay, contributing to the wines’ distinctive character.
In 2012, Château Le Pape entered a new era under the ownership of Robert G. Wilmers, the proprietor of Château Haut-Bailly. Recognising the estate’s potential, he undertook significant renovations to both the château and its vineyards, reinforcing his commitment to the region’s viticultural heritage. Today, Château Le Pape operates under the stewardship of the Haut-Bailly team, ensuring a dedication to excellence and sustainable viticulture.
Producing approximately 30,000 bottles annually, Château Le Pape crafts wines that beautifully balance strength and elegance. With an ageing potential of 6 to 15 years, these wines exemplify the timeless allure of Pessac-Léognan’s terroir.
