  • Goedhuis, December 2017

Clos de Bèze was lucky, largely avoiding the frost this vintage. With 25% whole bunch fermented fruit, this is a very layered and sophisticated wine. With stunning wild strawberry fruit aromas, this is a powerful and concentrated wine, with layers of fruit and a textured tannic core. This high class wine is a real star in the cellar.

  • Neal Martin, December 2017, Score: 96-98

The 2016 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru was made from two cuvées, one destemmed and the other not, so that there is around 30% whole bunch. It has a very well-defined bouquet with outstanding tension and focus. The palate is pure and silky smooth, more red fruit than black, very harmonious with very well-integrated new oak (80%). This is the best that the domaine has ever made. Period. Chapeau Nicolas and Caroline. Drink 2022-2050

  • Burghound, January 2018, Score: 92-95

Reduction and wood dominate the wood today. Otherwise the palate impression confirms that there is plenty of volume to the rich and very concentrated large-bodied flavors where the supporting tannins are buried beneath an impressive reserve of dry extract that carries over to the mineral-inflected, long, linear and powerful finish. This is clearly built-to-age and will need at least some cellar time first. Don't miss! Drink: 2031+

  • Jancis Robinson, January 2018, Score: 18

Mid crimson. Juicy, very flattering fruit. Real energy, ripe fruit and excitement with taffeta-like texture – crunchy. Great balance and delivery in sweet mode. Admirable energy and chew. Great drive. Relatively GV! Drink 2025-2044

They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.Read less

Chambertin Clos de Bèze

Gevrey-Chambertin has more Grand Crus than any other appellation in Burgundy. Unusually wines from Clos de Beze may simply call themselves Chambertin, which is an indicator of the quality of these vineyards. One of the most complete of all the Grand Crus, rivalling the revered Romanee-Conti, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze wines are the pinnacle of Pinot Noir - fragrant, powerfully complex and intense.
