  • Goedhuis, December 2017

Strong limestone soils in the parcel result in a razor-like intensity to the white stone fruit flavours, which dance an intricate waltz with the sophisticated new oak spice. Excellent length.

  • Burghound, June 2018, Score: 89-91

Reduction. There is by contrast good freshness and verve to the notably stonier and more intense middle weight flavors that possess a refined mid-palate though the bone dry and youthfully austere finish is extremely tightly wound and will need extended patience. Outstanding Top value. Drink: 2024+

  • Decanter, January 2018, Score: 92

A vivid bouquet of lime and lemon zest, white flowers, crème pâtissière and chalky soil tones is followed by a tense, vertical palate with lovely concentration, depth and energy. It's precise and chiseled - a classic Chevalières, scarcely frosted in 2016. Drink 2020-2030

This has got to be the most well organised cellar in the Côte de Beaune. Jean-Philippe’s attention to detail in his winery is a good indication of his handling of fruit, and goes some way to explaining the precise and distinct characteristics found in his wines each possessing their own unique timbre. These wines are made with great care and patience, and all enjoy 12 months in barrel (he tends to use larger 600 litre demi-muids rather than the traditional 228 litre pièces) followed by a further 6 months on fine lees in tank. His painstaking attention to detail is demonstrated in his wines, which are pure and seamless. Though most of his wines are only village lieux dits, they could easily be mistaken for premiers crus.Read less
