Bought in 1988 by François Mitjavile, the owner of Château Tetre-Rôtebouef in St-Emilion. He considered its position; south facing, in two natural amphitheatres, next to the Gironde to be perfect for wine-growing. He undertook to reinvigorate the 14ha vineyard and introduced late harvesting (traditionally in this area they harvest too early, whilst the grapes are still a little under-ripe). Proportions of grapes are 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. Fermentation is in temperature controlled cement vats and ageing in barriques - 50% new - for 15-18 months. The wine is full bodied, robust, rich and long lasting, yet well balanced.Read less
