  • Goedhuis, November 2018

An expansive wine, with its open strawberry and pomegranate aromas. It has a direct intensity with just a hint of tannic oak structure. Firm fruit with a touch of rusticity creates a pleasingly traditional style of Clos de Vougeot.

  • Neal Martin, January 2019, Score: 89-91

The 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru offers lilting red berry fruit laced with cola and crushed stone on the nose, although I would have liked more presence and intensity at this stage. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin and quite masculine in style. The rather simple finish needs more mineralité. Personally, I prefer some of the Premier Crus from the domaine this year. Maybe this just did not shine on the day. 2021 - 2032

  • Burghound, January 2018, Score: 91-94

A pretty, cool and restrained nose reluctantly offers up notes of red currant, earth, humus and a hint of violet, all of which is trimmed in a discreet application of wood. The vibrant and detailed flavors are not especially concentrated (though they're certainly not dilute) but I like the punch plus the moderately austere finish is more refined than it typically is. Solid if not sensational quality here. Drink 2032+

  • Wine Advocate, January 2019, Score: 91+93+

Aromas of wild berries, cassis, incense, smoked duck and rose hip introduce the 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, a full-bodied, ample and layered wine that's quite charming and open-knit by the standards of Clos Vougeout and even by the standards of this routinely elegant cuvée. Framed by fine-grained tannins, it's pure, fleshy and elegant, and it should shine at a comparatively early age.

  • Decanter, October 2018, Score: 96

Hudelot-Noëllat's 0.8ha of the Clos are made up of two parcels, both of them in the upper part of the grand cru. Intensely aromatic and sweet, this is the quintessence of Pinot Noir, with raspberry and wild strawberry fruit complemented by acidity and 40% new wood. Deliciously hedonistic. Drink 2025-2030

The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. At the ripe young age of 20, he started renting vineyards from his family in Chambolle Musigny until eventually receiving other small parcels from his father. Following a passionate and whirlwind romance with the granddaughter of Charles Noellat, he married despite protests from her family. This controversial union ensured additional vineyards despite a harrying and lengthy legal battle. Today the domaine owns a total of 10 well-situated hectares, which are split over 5 communes. Alain Hudelot’s grandson Charles Van Canneyt is a man on a mission. Having arrived at the domaine from Champagne only six years ago, he is already considered one of the brightest young talents in the region. These wines are wonderful examples of traditionally styled Burgundy - superbly pure and focused with an undeniable sense of terroir.Read less
