  • Burghound, April 2020, Score: 91-94

Once again there is a plethora of floral elements adding both breadth and elegance to the equally cool but more restrained essence of red and dark berries that are laced with plenty of freshly turned earth and a touch of the sauvage. There is excellent intensity to the even more overtly mineral-driven, sleek and muscular flavors that terminate in a youthfully austere and again mildly raspy finish that still delivers excellent length. This too is going to require a plenty of patience as it's very much constructed for the long haul and especially so in magnum format. Drink 2043+

  • Jasper Morris MW, January 2020, Score: 95-98

13.5%, so picked at the right time. A little lighter in colour with slightly reductive leafy character, lightly perfumed. Light clear red fruit, with all the depth appearing at the back of the palate and a fabulous long finish. Shows prettier livelier fruit when re-tasted and absolutely all in finesse yet with real intensity.

Region

Chambertin

Gevrey Chambertin lies well to the north of the Cote de Nuits. It has no less than 9 grand cru vineyards and the most famous of these is Chambertin. Often considered the greatest of all red Burgundies for its complexity, power and intensity, Chambertin's fine wines are unsurprisingly rare and are priced accordingly. They also need years to develop to their full potential, but are undoubtedly worth the wait.
