  • RETAIL prices include UK Duty and VAT. Wines for UK delivery can only be purchased this way.

  • Duty Paid wines have been removed from Bond and cannot subsequently be returned to Bond.  VAT is payable on Duty Paid wines. These wines must remain Duty Paid but can be purchased as such for storage subject to VAT.

Whilst there is a hint of limestone gunflint, the main character is more on breadth and richness. This is very composed and comfortable in its own skin. Lovely length and quite delicious.

    This too is reduced though again, it seems clear that the underlying fruit is notably ripe. The lavishly rich medium-bodied flavors possess evident power and good minerality that becomes more apparent as the bitter lemon-inflected finish sits on the palate. This lingering and moderately firm effort also displays a touch of warmth but not so much as to materially impair the balance. 2027+

    Broader, seemingly riper and ever so slightly exotic by comparison to the more angular Les Vaillons, this is a relaxed and charming wine with a forward-drinking feel. Attractive and smooth, this precocity is beguiling and it means that you may well miss the finish which is sneakily loaded with cleansing acidity. A great balance between sexiness and tension, this is a superb wine. Drink 2022-2028

    4 plots on the Chablis side, but all the way up the slope. Olivier notes that yields are always low from what he describes as ‘tired old, soil’. This is a clean and powerful version that has kept to classic lines without undue exoticism, but the wood adds a little toast to the finish. 14% alcohol, but with low pH and, so fresh acidity saves the day. 3 stars.

The Billaud-Simon name is long-established in Chablis, dating back to 1815 when Charles-Louis-Noël Billaud purchased his first vineyards. The estate remained in family ownership for 200 years until Erwan Faiveley purchased Billaud-Simon for Joseph Faiveley in 2015. This represents a new era for the Faiveley family, one of the Côte d’Or’s most significant vineyard owners, now investing their expertise and commitment to producing great wines in the Yonne and Chablis with approximately 18 hectares of exceptional vineyard holdings including four premiers crus and four grands crus. Under the guidance of Wine Director Olivier Bailly, they remain respectful to the traditions of the estate and continue to sell the wines under the Billaud-Simon name. The style is graceful and pure. Olivier seeks to make wines with true appellational authenticity. Oak is kept to minimal levels, only used judiciously, allowing the natural fruit content to express itself to a maximum.Read less

Region

Chablis

Chablis is world famous for its fine white wines produced from the Chardonnay grape. The best vineyards are perched above the winding Serein river and are south or southwest facing ensuring better ripeness in this cooler climate. It has four appellation levels. Petit Chablis is the most modest and simple followed by Chablis, which is the largest and most prominent. Premier cru Chablis is the third largest appellation and encompasses almost 40 different climats or vineyards including the famed Montée de Tonnerre, Fourchaumes and Mont de Milieu. The most noble of all Chablis are the grand crus of which there are 7 climats in total Bougros, Les Preuses, Vaudésir, Grenouilles, Valmur, Les Clos and Blanchot. The wines of Chablis have remained some of the best value in the world, particularly their superb grand crus which can easily cost 50% less than its closest revered white grand cru neighbour, Corton Charlemagne.
