  • Goedhuis, November 2020

Lying at the top of the Clos just below the Château, the Drouhin Laroze vines are some of the very best positioned within this, the largest Côte de Nuits Grand Crus. A little closed on the nose, but on the palate this is a wine with power and attitude. Fabulously intense layers of dark wild berry fruits, it is muscular and rich at the same time. A wine with huge potential which highlights the age-worthiness of Clos de Vougeot.

  • Neal Martin, December 2020, Score: 94-96

The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru was completely destemmed this year. It has a vibrant bouquet of black cherries, raspberry coulis and freshly picked roses. There is a purity here that I admire. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy and quite corpulent yet retaining definition on the finish, and leaving cracked black pepper on the aftertaste. This could turn out to be one of Drouhin-Laroze's best 2019s. Drink 2024 - 2045

  • Burghound, January 2021, Score: 90-93

More subdued oak more easily allows the aromas spice, pungent earth and dark currant to be appreciated. The sleek, vibrant and attractively textured medium weight flavors exhibit solid complexity and sneaky good length on the youthfully austere and mildly rustic finale. Drink: 2031+

  • Jasper Morris MW, November 2020, Score: 93-96

80% new wood. No whole bunches are used as they do not wish to hide the muscular shoulders of Clos Vougeot. Intense purple. There is a huge volume of fruit but with excellent tension behind, a good fruit acid balance, still ripe and of course not showing detail yet. But this stands up tall and should work well. Long powerful and oaky finish. Why not. 4 Star

They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.Read less
