  • Goedhuis, December 2020

The last Premier Cru before reaching Pernand Vergelesses, this vineyard is distinguished by the high chalk content of its soil. A wine which balances a richness and density with a sophisticated touch of mineral drive. Pure Pinot flavours, lots of flesh and very full.

  • Neal Martin, December 2020, Score: 92-94

The 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Vergelesses 1er Cru has a sophisticated nose of blackberry, loamy damp soil, raspberry and light cracked black pepper aromas that build nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and a crisp bead of acidity; very harmonious. White pepper and clove appear toward a finish that leaves the tongue tingling after it has departed. Superb. Drink 2023 - 2040

  • Wine Advocate, January 2021, Score: 93-95

The 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Vergelesses is a striking wine, soaring from the glass with scents of wilted roast petals, bergamot, oriental spices, wild berries and plums. Medium to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it's vibrant and velvety, with lively acids and a long, perfumed finish. This is an immensely good Savigny from Chisa Bize and her team.

  • Jasper Morris MW, October 2020, Score: 89-91

Slightly less dense purple , but correspondingly a more elegant and approachable nose. Medium weight of quite classy fruit then a drier finish as the stems kick in. Just a matter of waiting. Light liquorice notes. Good though. 3 stars

It is now under the careful management of Chisa, the late Patrick Bize’s wife, and Marielle Grivot, Patrick’s sister. They like to continue his practice of whole bunch fermentation and gentle handling of the fruit during the vinification process. The result is always very stylish wines, which possess the sweetness of fruit and subtle core of tannins, which are such a character of the wines of Savigny.Read less

Region

Savigny-lès-Beaune

The picturesque village of Savigny-lès-Beaune, just to the north of Beaune, is a relatively prolific producer in Burgundian terms. Less serious than its neighbours, Pommard and Volnay, these are nonethless delicious wines - perfumed, delicate and elegant. A tiny amount of white is produced.
