  • Goedhuis, December 2021

The family holding is a substantial 1.5 hectares in a wonderful location within the Chambolle Musigny sector of the appellation. 40% whole bunches, this is gorgeously scented, with wild fruits and a touch of pepper, spice and cocoa bean. It shows its Chambolle origins with its succulence and plump generosity. The velvety tannins intermesh with the full fruit, whilst always appearing fresh. As always, a star cuvée.

  • Burghound, January 2022, Score: 91-94

A restrained, elegant and admirably pure nose features notes of fresh black raspberry, violet and rose petal. The delicious, dense and palate drenching big-bodied flavors possess both a beguiling texture and excellent power on the dusty, compact and youthfully austere finish that is noticeably more structured. Patience advised. Drink: 2035+

  • Jasper Morris MW, December 2021, Score: 93-96

40% whole bunch vinification 80% new wood, and a yield of just 24 hl/ha. Dark dense purple, this is clearly one of the ripe wines though somewhat saved by the whole bunches which give greater life to the sundried cherry fruit. Very succulent through the second half of the palate, though at the limit of ripeness. The whole bunches pull out the length very nicely and it finishes well.

They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.Read less
