    The 2020 Bourgogne Rouge Cuvée de Pinson, which contains around 50% deselected fruit from Gevrey, offers raspberry and cranberry scents on the nose. Fine precision. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, taut and crisp with a dash of black pepper towards the finish. Impressive for a regional Burgundy.

    An agreeably fresh nose reflects pretty notes of red pinot fruit, plum and newly turned earth. There is a lovely sense of vibrancy to the detailed flavors that terminate in a dusty, youthfully austere and bitter pit fruit-inflected finish. This is a quality Bourgogne that should repay a few years of keeping. Outstanding.

    Made up out of the young vines from Gevrey for half and some fruit declassified from Morey 1er Cru after blockage of maturity. Ripe mid purple, perfumed ripe fruit, attractive enough. Peppery notes to finish, plus the dry tannins of blocked maturity.

Their combination of late picking, destemming, and ageing in old oak barrels achieve the domaine’s distinctive style of long-lived wines. Laurent Ponsot left the domaine in 2017, and the estate is now run by his sister, Rose Marie Ponsot. Alexandre Abel has joined the team as régisseur, and together they continue to uphold these three principles of the estate. Furthermore, they are not afraid to experiment, and are always evolving the viticulture and winemaking style with small innovations. The estate has eschewed the fashion of using new oak barrels to age the wines, preferring seasoned casks which act as an “elevage” vessel rather than imparting barrel flavours. As Alexandre says “we want our wines to taste the maximum of the true fruit and terroir flavours that nature provides us with".Read less

Bourgogne

This blanket regional appellation can apply to wines throughout Burgundy (60% of the area's production) as long as they comply with regulations relating to grape type, yield and alcohol content. Reds and roses are from Pinot Noir or Gamay. Whites are Chardonnay. They are usually the most straightforward of the Burgundy wines, and as a result are the least expensive and the most approachable upon release. In the hands of a more serious producer these can represent exceptional value and quality. The wines are made with the same care and attention to detail as their grander wines. However, they may not qualify for a village or communal appellation because the vines are too young or the vineyard area is outside the appellation boundary.
