  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, August 2025

An exciting new addition to our list. Deep ruby with a violet rim, the 2020 vintage opens with an expressive nose of dark berry fruit, full of ripe plums, black cherries and mulberries, with some gentle floral undertones and a touch of espresso, cocoa and subtle smoke. The lovely silky tannins flow over the palate, complimenting the lush, juicy fruit, held together by a core of gentle salinity. Just starting to drink very well now, and will age nicely for the next 3-5 years too.

  • James Suckling, December 2022, Score: 90

Attractive aromas of black cherries and mulberries with grilled herbs, spice box, walnut and cedar undertones. Medium- to full-bodied with a succulent dark fruits on the palate, with firm tannins and a dry, chewy finish. Try after 2024.

Château La Vaisinerie is a historic wine estate located in Puisseguin, a satellite appellation of Saint-Émilion in Bordeaux, with origins dating back to the late 17th century. Originally a dependency of Château de Puisseguin, the estate’s manor was constructed around 1685, with the vinification cellar completed in 1718. Covering approximately 25 hectares—of which around 12 to 13 hectares are under vine—the estate is planted primarily with Merlot (approximately 90%) and complemented by Cabernet Franc (10%). The vineyard, with an average vine age of 35 years, is situated on clay-limestone and clay-loam soils, and is managed using sustainable agricultural practices, holding a "Haute Valeur Environnementale" (HVE) certification since 2019. Acquired by Alain Moses in 2019, following its restoration by the Bessede family in 2004, Château La Vaisinerie emphasizes biodiversity and minimal intervention. Vinification includes fermentation in concrete vats and ageing for 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels (a mix of new and used).Read less

Region

St Estèphe

St Estèphe is the most northern of Médoc communal crus. Its unique terroir is made up of layers of gravel which are supported by a dense clay base. This subsoil retains water in dry seasons and works particularly well with Merlot, a largely planted variety which is used to flesh out Cabernet Sauvignon. This clay base also creates powerful, textured tannins which enable St Estèphe to stand out from the pack. Like St Julien, it is one of the four most important communal appellations of the Médoc which does not contain any first growths, despite its southern border being a stone'sthrow from Château Lafite. Nonetheless, it is home to some excellent châteaux making fine wines such as Cos d'Estournel, Montrose, Calon Ségur and Lafon Rochet.
