  • Neal Martin, January 2022, Score: 94-96

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru has one of the most opulent aromatics from the Domaine with vivacious dark cherries, cassis and pressed violet scents that gain momentum with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with silky tannins, very harmonious, superb mineralité. "This is exactly the kind of Chambolle I imagine," remarked Charles van Canneyt - I can see what he means. Drink 2025-2044

Here the floral nuances of violet and rose petal are more prominent on the aromas of red and dark cherry and soft wood wisps. There is once again both fine underlying tension and delineation to the strikingly textured middle weight flavors that also culminate in a racy, youthfully austere and more persistent finish. Lovely stuff. Outstanding. Drink: 2032+

  • Jasper Morris MW, January 2022, Score: 93-95

Glowing imperial purple, a touch more ethereal, could almost imagine there was some whole bunches here. Medium bodied within the context of the vintage, but properly noble Chambolle with a seamless lingering aftertaste.

The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. At the ripe young age of 20, he started renting vineyards from his family in Chambolle Musigny until eventually receiving other small parcels from his father. Following a passionate and whirlwind romance with the granddaughter of Charles Noellat, he married despite protests from her family. This controversial union ensured additional vineyards despite a harrying and lengthy legal battle. Today the domaine owns a total of 10 well-situated hectares, which are split over 5 communes. Alain Hudelot’s grandson Charles Van Canneyt is a man on a mission. Having arrived at the domaine from Champagne only six years ago, he is already considered one of the brightest young talents in the region. These wines are wonderful examples of traditionally styled Burgundy - superbly pure and focused with an undeniable sense of terroir.Read less

Region

Chambolle Musigny

The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
