  • Goedhuis, December 2021

The selection of very old vines for this cuvée made it perfect to use a large proportion of whole clusters during the vinification. At 70% this wine has all the “matière” to support the stalks. Firm dark fruit flavours, a touch of graphite and spice, this is quite a serious styled Chambolle focusing a little more on muscle and power than in some years. A wine to age.

  • Burghound, April 2022, Score: 89-91

An exuberantly spicy and layered nose speaks mostly of ripe black pinot fruit that is also trimmed in pretty floral wisps. The delicious medium-bodied flavors possess both good verve and fine delineation on the lightly stony, dusty and chalky finale that is presently somewhat youthfully austere. This should reward a few years of cellaring and ultimately make for a fine Chambolle villages. Outstanding. Drink 2026+

  • Matthew Jukes, January 2022, Score: 17.5

This is a lovely wine and there is a lovely floral nose, fine mid-palate and also some surprisingly grainy tannins on the finish, too. This will guard the wine well for a good four or five years, and by then, it will look nice and controlled.

  • Jasper Morris MW, January 2022, Score: 90-93

Sourced from Les Athets, Véroilles and young vine 1er cru Chatelots, one third whole bunch. Very pretty unexaggerated purple. This has not yet been racked so the bouquet is less prominent. Rose buds and violets, then a pretty and suave red fruit, still with the roses, a very stylish Chambolle not showing any drought at all. Remarkably long finish. A strong four stars.

Region

Chambolle Musigny

The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
