  • James Suckling, July 2024, Score: 93

A well-composed, textural, balanced and layered red with aromas of cherries, strawberries, Mediterranean herbs, baking spices, bark and hints of undergrowth. It’s medium-bodied with finely grained tannins and a refined texture. Focused and precise, with a flavorful and elegant finish. Drink or hold.

  • CH, July 2024, Score: 90

Quite toasty. Spicy - cinnamon and nutmeg. Grated mace. Very Syrah peppery. Saline in its minerality, almost a little Italianate. Plum and dark berry fruits. But a ferrous touch too. Chewy, substantial, authentic but with slightly rustic tannins. A pleasingly unpretentious mouthful.

  • William Kelley, September 2024

A beautifully expressive nose that instantly speaks of the warm, sunny climes of Corbières – lush notes of blackberries and winberries are interlaced with hints of garrigue, wild thyme and savoury clove spice. On the palate, the concentrated and generous fruit is supported by a fresh, lifted acidity that leaves a lingering sensation of freshly picked, sun-warmed raspberries. Smooth, fine-grained tannins round the wine out and provide the potential for future aging. All in all, this is an elegant wine that perfectly expresses the terroir of this Languedoc appellation.

  • Jane Anson, July 2024, Score: 93

Deep cherry red, intense and characterful, good quality, kicks off with a twist of bitter orange peel, with pomegranate, blueberry and cassis fruits, liqourice root, black chocolate, salt-licked with rosemary spice. Jean de Roquefeuille director, heading over to Aussières after a number of years at Château Rieussec. Olivier Tregoat consultant at this 167ha estate.

Aussières has made wine since the Roman era, a period when the great properties of the “Roman province of Narbonne” were recorded in the land registry and became the main wine suppliers to Rome.  Acquired in 1999 by Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite, the 550-hectare Domaine d’Aussières underwent a vast rehabilitation programme to restore and revitalize one of the oldest and most beautiful wine-making properties in the Narbonne region.  Nearly 170 hectares of vines were replanted with carefully selected traditional Languedoc grape varieties: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan, complemented by Cabernet, Merlot and Chardonnay. The estate buildings were restored at the same time and a new winery installed in the old cellars, in the heart of the vineyard. Two thirds of the vineyard fall in the Corbières AOC appellation and one third in the Vin de Pays d’Oc appellation.Read less

Region

Corbières

An appellation within the Languedoc in Southern France set in the Pyrenean foothills. This wild, hilly terrain is extremely varied, and old vines cling to the gnarled rocky hillside amongst the garrigue. Mourvèdre, Carignan, Grenache and Syrah thrive here in this wild environment, and produce wines with spice and concentration.
