  • Neal Martin, December 2021, Score: 93-95

The 2020 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru is one of the cuvées that did not finish its malo until July. Quite penetrating red berry fruit here, this has the energy of the Bonnes-Mares but with a little more focus. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition, sappy redcurrant and cranberry notes laced with white pepper that lead to a very harmonious finish. Excellent.

  • Jasper Morris MW, January 2022, Score: 92-96

Uniquely in the Leroux cellar, this cuvée did not go through its malolactic fermentation until July. So it is currently unsettled, unracked and the nose is much more backward, with a graphite touch. Quite ripe plump fruit, hedgerows and brambles, more tannins, just at an awkward stage. I think this will turn out very well, in good time. Magnums only.

Region

Clos de la Roche

The finest and biggest Grand Cru red wine appellation in Burgundy's Morey-St-Denis, on the Côte deNuits, covering 16.9ha. Clos de la Roche's soils are rich in marl which gives more body, depth and ageing potential to its wines than most other vineyards. Wines from Clos de la Roche tend to be powerful and full bodied with black fruit aromas and flavours, developing rich, gamey characters with age.
