Goedhuis, April 2022
This is a mini Barolo from the highly regarded 2020 vintage. From the south facing Valmaggiore vineyard in Roero, its steep slopes and sandy soils produce a wines of stunning aromatics and high-toned purity. Wild alpine strawberry, cassis, notes of red and blue fruits, intermingled with floral notes of violets. This is a complex, powerful and delicious Nebbiolo with a fine grippy velvety structure, and a refreshing zing of acidity, that balances the fruit perfectly. Drink 2023-2028+

Robert Parker, August 2023, Score: 92
Cherry, bright berry and cassis emerge from the Bruno Giacosa 2020 Nebbiolo d'Alba Vigna Valmaggiore. This is a somewhat looser, more open-knit approach to Nebbiolo that offers a delightful, fruit-forward mouthfeel that is characterized by moments of delicate softness and, alternatively, bright freshness. Blue flowers and violets appear on the close. Drink 2023-2032
Region
Piedmont
Piedmont is located in the north western corner of Italy. Though several grape varieties are prominent such as Dolcetto, Barbera and Moscato, it is Nebbiolo that reigns supreme. It produces wines that are not particularly deep in colour, yet they are perfumed, powerful and can age for many years. Due to the ethereal nature of the Nebbiolo grape and the numerous single vineyard wines, many compare top examples to grand cru Burgundies of the Côte de Nuits.Mountainous, its vineyards are cut into the hillsides forming terraces reminiscent of the Mosel Valley in Germany and the northern Rhone Valley in France. The two most notable appellations are Barolo and Barbaresco.
