  • Goedhuis, December 2021

A wine which justifies this well positioned vineyard’s excellent reputation in Savigny. With an attractive marriage of cherry blossom and wild berry fruits, this is rich and warming, showing off the vineyard’s southerly exposure. It also has a super crisp brightness and freshness. Good length and showy appeal.

  • Neal Martin, December 2021, Score: 88-90

The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Lavières 1er Cru is well-defined on the nose with slightly earthy red berry fruit, touches of crushed stone, slightly peppery (though this is de-stemmed like all Tollot-Beaut’s cuvées.) The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit. Good density here, maybe not the most tensile of the cuvées from the Domaine this vintage, but there is decent weight on the back end. Give it a couple of years in bottle. Drink 2025 - 2038

  • Burghound, April 2022, Score: 89

A moderately fresh nose reflects notably ripe but not roasted notes of red and black currant, spice and dried floral nuances. The rich, concentrated and succulent medium-bodied flavors coat the palate while the sap buffers the dense but fine tannins shaping the mildly warm finale. This is perfectly good, if a bit atypical, but it does not appear to be at its usual distinguished level. Drink: 2027+

  • Matthew Jukes, January 2022, Score: 17.5

With wild black fruit and so much class and depth, this is richer and yet more refined wine than the Chorey, and it is an instant classic. Do everything you can to grab a case of this wine. It is such a rewarding wine, and the price is spot on, too.

  • Jasper Morris MW, January 2022, Score: 87-90

Rich deep purple, the bouquet is less oppressive, better balanced than either Chorey. Ripe raspberry pinot, still quite massive at the finish but less exaggerated and the acidity melds in well with the fruit. Noticeably more length to the finish. 14.3% but better balanced

The wines of Tollot-Beaut are some of the best we taste every vintage. Uncomplicated, pure and fresh, they epitomize everything that we love about wines from the Côte de Beaune. In addition, their fleshiness and approachability makes them perfect for cynics who claim that Burgundy is not their cup of tea. The 22-hectare domaine has been family-owned for years. Today, the young, friendly and exceptionally bright Nathalie Tollot manages the domaine with her cousins. The wines are vinified fairly traditionally. About 40% of the crop is de-stemmed, though this varies depending on vintage. The wines are fermented in open-top wooden vats before being aged in oak barrels that are 10-50% new. Very lightly fined and filtered before bottling, the resulting wines are often opulent with noticeable density, always clean and superbly pure. Just wonderful Burgundy.Read less

Region

Savigny-lès-Beaune

The picturesque village of Savigny-lès-Beaune, just to the north of Beaune, is a relatively prolific producer in Burgundian terms. Less serious than its neighbours, Pommard and Volnay, these are nonethless delicious wines - perfumed, delicate and elegant. A tiny amount of white is produced.
