  • Goedhuis, December 2021

This is such a lovely lieu-dit on the border of Chambolle Musigny. There are just 3 hectares of village wine in Vougeot, of which Clos du Village is one, making this wine even more special. Brilliant purple colour, it has a sweetness of raspberries. This is a tender, gentle style, with graceful juicy fruit and a touch of dark chocolate on the finish. Succulent and exciting.

  • Neal Martin, December 2021, Score: 89-91

The 2020 Vougeot Clos de Village has a pretty, tertiary nose that unfolds nicely with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded tannins, brown spices infusing the red berry fruit, though it needs a little more tension on the finish.

  • Burghound, April 2022, Score: 87-90

Pretty floral wisps add a touch of elegance to the earthy, ripe and fresh blend of both red and dark currant. The delicious and attractively energetic middle weight flavors are refreshing and balanced though not particularly complex. Drink 2025+

  • Matthew Jukes, January 2022, Score: 17.5

Pure, bright and easy to both understand and enjoy, this is a classic Leroux style, and it is harmonious, soothing and delicately juicy. Great value and forward, too, this is a cunning buy and one which will bring melodic flavours and engaging drinking early in its life.

  • Jasper Morris MW, Janaury 2022, Score: 89-92

Bright but not exceptionally intense purple colour. This is discreet on the nose, takes its time to come out, but it builds very well at the back, softer than sometimes, well balanced tannins, not too much acidity.

Region

Vougeot

Unlike the other predominant Côte de Nuits appellations, Vougeot's main appellation is its onlygrand cru vineyard, Clos de Vougeot. It is by far the largest grand cru of the area totalling over 50 hectares with over 40 owners rumoured to own vines. As a result, its vineyards run from the flat, clay-dominated valley floor to the well-drained, venerated sloped hillsides suggesting that its quality ending on where it is grown. As a result, it is often the least valued of the grand crus and can offer excellent value, particularly in good vintages where ripeness has been attained.
