The palate is silky smooth on the entry, candied orange peel filtering through the shimmering red fruit with a refreshing and precise finish that urges you back for more. Wonderful. Drink 2025-2048

    No darker in colour but with a beautiful bouquet suggesting depth and freshness together. Well-judged and adds to complexity. Adequate density in this theoretically lighter year, a few tannins from the oak at the back, but all nicely integrated with a fine long finish. Drink from 2026-2031.

Sylvain Cathiard is one of the top growers in Vosne Romanée, a region not shy of exceptional talent. He only has around 4.25 hectares of vines, therefore the quantity that he makes is particularly small. Traditionally, Burgundy domaines are renowned for being minute in size, and he is definitely amongst the smallest. In addition, he has some of the most exceptional vineyards, which read like a Who's Who list of the Côte de Nuits, many of which are located next to grand crus sites. This combination is lethal for allocations. Too little wine with too many open hands all waiting for their fair share. SInce 2011 his talented son, Sébastien, has been running the domaine.Read less

Region

Nuits Saint Georges

The second largest town after Beaune, Nuits St. Georges is known for ample wines that have textured tannins and rich fruit. Unlike other famous Côte de Nuits villages, it has no Grand Crus but does have a handful of exceptional premier cru vineyards such as Clos de l'Arlot, Les Pruliers and AuxMurgers. Its wines can be occasionally rustic, and this sets them apart from many of the more northern appellations as well as from the neighbouring Côte de Beaune whose wines (apart from Pommard) tend to be less structured and more fruit forward. This is no doubt due to a slightly increased presence of clay especially on the Primeaux-Prissey area of the appellation. Notable producers include Domaine de l'Arlot, Jean Grivot and Meo-Camuzet.
