Goedhuis, December 2022
What was formerly known as Petit Arlot, the vines in this parcel are now over 25 years old and the domaine has created a new label reflecting its Premier Cru status: Mont des Oiseaux, named after the old track which overlooks the quarry of the Clos. It has its own location at the top of the Arlot Clos on limestone soil, so is a very different style to the marl-based Clos wine. A little backward on the nose, however this restraint diminishes on the palate. Flavours of red cherry and smooth berry fruits, with hints of dark cocoa and textured chewy tannins on finish. Lots of potential.

Neal Martin, January 2023, Score: 89-91
The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Mont des Oiseaux 1er Cru, which comes from white limestone soils at the top of Clos de l'Arlot, was showing some reduction on the nose. The palate is more readable, fleshy with grainy tannins that frame the slightly peppery red fruit. Cohesive and gentle in terms of grip on the finish, this should drink well for the next decade. Drink 2024-2035.

Jasper Morris MW, November 2022, Score: 88-90
Fresh crimson purple. There is a light toast on the nose but no significant reduction. A sweeter thicker textured style of wine, with a clean red fruit, a touch or orange rind, middling acidity and fair persistence. Drink from 2025-2028.

Nuits Saint Georges
The second largest town after Beaune, Nuits St. Georges is known for ample wines that have textured tannins and rich fruit. Unlike other famous Côte de Nuits villages, it has no Grand Crus but does have a handful of exceptional premier cru vineyards such as Clos de l'Arlot, Les Pruliers and AuxMurgers. Its wines can be occasionally rustic, and this sets them apart from many of the more northern appellations as well as from the neighbouring Côte de Beaune whose wines (apart from Pommard) tend to be less structured and more fruit forward. This is no doubt due to a slightly increased presence of clay especially on the Primeaux-Prissey area of the appellation. Notable producers include Domaine de l'Arlot, Jean Grivot and Meo-Camuzet.
