Goedhuis, August 2023
Clos de la Roilette is a leading estate in Beaujolais and we love their precise, classical Fleurie, grown on granite soils. Gamay’s pure kirsch cherries and violet notes combine with mineral freshness. Pretty and perfumed, the 2022 has splashes of succulent red cherry fruits overlaid with fragrant floral notes. Velvety in texture, a line of lip smacking acidity wraps around the palate giving lift and energy. A value-packed wine that is lighter on its feet and perfect for everyday drinking.
Region
Fleurie
At the very southern tip of Burgundy, to the west of Villefranche-sur-Saone, lie the vineyards of Beaujolais. Light years from the illustrious slopes of the Cote d'Or, this is the home of the Gamay grape which thrives on granite soils. The grapes are vinified whole which results in lovely, fresh fruity red wines for early drinking. Fleurie is one of ten crus in the area producing a higher quality of wine than straightforward Beaujolais or Beaujolais villages. The wines are very appealing, full of perfumed fruit with a fresh, crunchy texture.
