In contrast to the Grand Vin this focuses on Merlot, comprising 87% of the. Plump and rich flavours of ground coffee bean and Morello cherry. Approachable in style, this is a generous and easy wine, with a lovely bright purity. Harmonious and pleasing.

  • Antonio Galloni, April 2023, Score: 90-92

The 2022 Moulin de Duhart is a gorgeous second wine. Plump, juicy and expressive, the 2022 will drink well right out of the gate. Succulent red cherry fruit, rose petal, cinnamon and lavender are nicely pushed forward. Pretty savory and floral top notes add lovely aromatic complexity. The blend is 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon.

  • James Suckling, April 2023, Score: 93-94

Such beautiful blackberry, chocolate and hazelnut character here. It's medium-bodied with juicy fruit and a succulent finish. All here for the second wine. 87% merlot and 13% cabernet sauvignon.

  • Matthew Jukes, April 2023, Score: 17

Pure, direct and with lovely balance and freshness, the dark berry fruit theme possesses a little more exoticism than I have seen in previous vintages. Layered and balanced, it is hard to believe that this is a second wine, given the depth of fruit and style.

  • Jeb Dunnuck, April 2023, Score: 91-93

A blend of 87% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2022 Moulin De Duhart has a gorgeous nose of ripe black cherries, tobacco, and earth. It's medium-bodied, with plenty of richness, fine tannins, and a great finish. It's going to offer pleasure right out of the gate yet still have 10-15 years of overall longevity.

  • Jane Anson, April 2023, Score: 90

Inky plum, this is packed with cassis and bilberry fruits, serious tannic architecture, tobacco leaf and sandalwood edging, with a wall of black pepper and rosemary spice on the finish. 15.5% press wine used, the most to date. Duhart Milon vineyard is looking at lowering density of planting because it can be extremely dry, so more challenging in these kind of years.

Producer

Château Duhart-Milon

Owned since 1962 by the Rothschilds of Château Lafite, this wine is often overlooked. Yet it usually comes through with impressive results, its style replicating its more renowned big brother with outstanding purity and finesse.

Region

Pauillac

Due south of St Estèphe lies the appellation of Pauillac, the king of Left Bank communes. It is home to three first growths as well as a plethora of other classified growths. Pauillac's renowned well-draining, gravelly soils enable its dominant grape Cabernet Sauvignon to reach fantastic heights of complexity and concentration. As a result, Pauilac's wines tend to be full-bodied with compact tannins and good freshness. Its aromatics are often what one associates with classic Bordeaux: pencil shavings, black currant and occasional mint. Some of the most famous châteaux of the commune are Latour, Mouton Rothschild, Lafite Rothschild, Pichon Baron, Pichon Lalande and Lynch Bages.
