Goedhuis, December 2023
Domaine de l’Arlot is 15 hectares in total and of them, Clos des Forêts St Georges covers 7.2 hectares. It is considered by many, alongside its Les St Georges neighbour, of Grand Cru stature. Deep, dark brooding fruits, with a multitude of spices, mocha and liquorice. Sometimes this cuvée can be a little shy when young, but at our November tastings it was excelling, balancing its rich nature with some muscle and composed tension. Wonderfully layered, it really does have a Grand Cru to it this year.

Neal Martin, November 2023, Score: 94 - 96
The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Forêts Saint Georges 1er Cru was also raised in 40% new oak. [Incidentally, 0.6ha will be planted with Chardonnay in 2024]. Slightly deeper in color compared to the Clos de l'Arlot, this has slightly more cohesion and complexity on the nose: dark cherries and crushed stone, a hint of wilted rose petals in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with beautifully integrated new oak, lending this a velvety veneer. It is a little plush yet with equivalent tension and a detailed, slightly piquant finish. This is an outstanding Nuits Saint-Georges from the Domaine. 94 - 96 points. Drink 2026 - 2050. Neal Martin, Vinous

Jasper Morris MW, October 2023, Score: 92-93
A fuller purple than either Arlot cuvée, which is as normal. The bouquet holds the promise of clean fruit at optimum ripeness, but does not deliver detail at this point. Plenty of energy here, some slightly firmer tannins, correct acidity, and then the more perfumed red berry fruit, slightly more raspberry here, returns at the back. Drink from 2030-2037.

Region
Nuits Saint Georges
The second largest town after Beaune, Nuits St. Georges is known for ample wines that have textured tannins and rich fruit. Unlike other famous Côte de Nuits villages, it has no Grand Crus but does have a handful of exceptional premier cru vineyards such as Clos de l'Arlot, Les Pruliers and AuxMurgers. Its wines can be occasionally rustic, and this sets them apart from many of the more northern appellations as well as from the neighbouring Côte de Beaune whose wines (apart from Pommard) tend to be less structured and more fruit forward. This is no doubt due to a slightly increased presence of clay especially on the Primeaux-Prissey area of the appellation. Notable producers include Domaine de l'Arlot, Jean Grivot and Meo-Camuzet.
