The fruit comes from 2 different lieu-dits next door to each other; Les Charbonnieres (100 year old vines) and Les Topons (80 years old) in Premeaux. A superb Nuits, with composed structure. Intense bramble and blackberry fruits, very full and concentrated, with a tightly woven tannic core. Great persistence on the finish.

Discovering this small 6 hectare estate in the village of Premeaux just outside Nuits St Georges has been one of our most exciting discoveries of 2022. Morgan Truchetet, wife Pauline, and his sister Julie took over the running of the domaine in 2019. It is thanks to Pauline that we made the discovery; she has been a close friend for many years, first during her time working at Domaine de l’Arlot and then assisting Bruno Colin in Chassagne Montrachet. Quite a CV! The estate wines are 100% focused around Nuits St Georges and, since taking over, Morgan has supplemented the range by buying in fruit to vinify under a negociant label for appellations where they don’t own vineyards. For these he follows the same quality criteria and ideals as for the domaine. They are a dynamic trio, set to make a name in the locality. 2020 saw their conversion to full organic practices. They are currently experimenting in adjusting the trellising and pruning methods to adapt to climate change, optimising photosynthesis but also protecting the bunches by creating leaf shade during the hotter summer months. In 2021 new vinification tanks were installed to allow Morgan, in his words, to infuse the berries, like a tea, gently taking both flavour and colour from all the components. In 2023 they are undertaking a winery expansion to give them more space. Exciting times lie ahead for this small Domaine.Read less

Region

Nuits Saint Georges

The second largest town after Beaune, Nuits St. Georges is known for ample wines that have textured tannins and rich fruit. Unlike other famous Côte de Nuits villages, it has no Grand Crus but does have a handful of exceptional premier cru vineyards such as Clos de l'Arlot, Les Pruliers and AuxMurgers. Its wines can be occasionally rustic, and this sets them apart from many of the more northern appellations as well as from the neighbouring Côte de Beaune whose wines (apart from Pommard) tend to be less structured and more fruit forward. This is no doubt due to a slightly increased presence of clay especially on the Primeaux-Prissey area of the appellation. Notable producers include Domaine de l'Arlot, Jean Grivot and Meo-Camuzet.
