  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024

With only 6% of Burgundy’s plantings dedicated to the Aligoté grape, it can be all too easy to ignore these whites and focus on the region’s more famous Chardonnays. However, high-quality growers are making truly delicious Aligotés worthy of discovery and Cathiard is no exception. Highly perfumed, with expressive notes of ripe peaches, apricot compote and apple blossom, this wine simply leaps out of the glass. Fresh, juicy and very easy drinking, this pretty, lively white would make for the perfect apéritif.

  • Jasper Morris MW, November 2024, Score: 86

Bottled Spring 2024. Pale in colour, with quite an austere, lean nose. Quite a green fruit on the palate. Tasted early on a Monday morning, first wine of the week, so I may have found this more aggressive than it really is. A little note of almond paste to finish. Drink from 2026-2027. Tasted Nov 2024.

He only has around 4.25 hectares of vines, therefore the quantity that he makes is particularly small. Traditionally, Burgundy domaines are renowned for being minute in size, and he is definitely amongst the smallest. In addition, he has some of the most exceptional vineyards, which read like a Who's Who list of the Côte de Nuits, many of which are located next to grand crus sites. This combination is lethal for allocations. Too little wine with too many open hands all waiting for their fair share. SInce 2011 his talented son, Sébastien, has been running the domaine.Read less

Region

Bourgogne Aligoté

Regional appellation for white wines made exclusively from the Aligote grape. Unlike Chardonnay these are best drunk young, with fresh notes of green apple and citrus fruit. The best wines tend to come from the Cote Chalonnaise around Bouzeron. This is the classic wine used in making Kir with Creme de Cassis from up the road in Dijon.
