  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024

The fruit for this cuvée comes 45-year-old vines grown in a single parcel, named Champ Franc, on the lower slopes of Gevrey. A third of the wine is aged in new oak, with the remainder of the blend maturing in older casks. The 2023 is immediately giving, with enticing notes of Morello cherry, just-picked raspberries and a swirl of bitter cocoa nib. Ripe, plush and mouth-filling, this generous Pinot has overt, yet suave tannins, and a pomegranate freshness that drives the palate forward to a refined and satisfying finish.

  • Burghound, January 2025, Score: 89-91

Sauvage and earth-suffused dark berry fruit aromas precede the lilting and relatively refined flavors that also possess fine delineation on the dusty, delicious and balanced finale that offers solid depth and persistence. There is a touch of youthfully austere so a few years of cellaring should be beneficial.

  • Jasper Morris MW, November 2024, Score: 89-91

A little brisker in colour, with both fruit and oak vying for the upper hand on the nose. Fresh strawberry with a little redcurrant, stylish on the palate, a good fruit acid balance and some length.

Traditionally, Burgundy domaines are renowned for being minute in size, and he is definitely amongst the smallest. In addition, he has some of the most exceptional vineyards, which read like a Who's Who list of the Côte de Nuits, many of which are located next to grand crus sites. This combination is lethal for allocations. Too little wine with too many open hands all waiting for their fair share. SInce 2011 his talented son, Sébastien, has been running the domaine.Read less

Region

Gevrey Chambertin

The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
