  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024

The vineyard holdings for Les Dames Huguette are located at 380m above sea level on the very top of a plateau. This position means that the soils are both shallow and poor, with the vines planted into layers of highly friable limestone. The cooler climate and limestone bedrock prove a winning combination here, giving a fragrant, perfumed Pinot with a beguiling nose of redcurrants, cranberries, heather and dried wild herbs. Although poised and almost linear, there is real volume of fruit and a complexity that’s sustained by crystalline acidity and light-touch tannin.

  • Burghound, January 2025, Score: 86-89

A perfumed and slightly more elegant nose of mostly red berries and wet stone gives way to less concentrated but finer flavors that possess excellent delineation, indeed the word chiseled comes to mind, all wrapped in a dusty and moderately austere finale that isn’t quite as complex.

He only has around 4.25 hectares of vines, therefore the quantity that he makes is particularly small. Traditionally, Burgundy domaines are renowned for being minute in size, and he is definitely amongst the smallest. In addition, he has some of the most exceptional vineyards, which read like a Who's Who list of the Côte de Nuits, many of which are located next to grand crus sites. This combination is lethal for allocations. Too little wine with too many open hands all waiting for their fair share. SInce 2011 his talented son, Sébastien, has been running the domaine.Read less

Region

Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits

Located at the top of the slopes and on the plateau above the celebrated villages of the Cotes de Nuits a dozen or so villages can claim this appellation. Given their altitude full ripeness is not guaranteed every year, so Hautes-Cotes status is only awarded after tasting. Principally reds from Pinot Noir, with a smattering of whites, these wines can be delicious and excellent value from the best vineyard sites.
