Located to the north of the commune on a steep, east-facing slope over a bedrock of hard Comblanchien limestone, this vineyard produces one of Marsannay’s more powerful wines. Sometimes a cuvée that needs time to show its charms, the 2023 does not conform to type and was already bright, open and joyful when tasted in November 2024. Brimming with vibrant notes of redcurrant, freshly picked raspberries and a hint of wild herbs, the limestone influence of the terroir really comes through in the mineral-driven acidity that provides shimmering tension throughout the red-toned core. A subtle tannic grip and a hint of bitter almond bring a pleasing bite and complexity to the finish.

Whilst this might not be immediate, it reflects the respect that Marsannay and its best vineyards are rightly held in today.Read less
