  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024

One of the commune’s higher Premiers Crus sitting just below the tree line, in what was once pastureland. A shimmering lime tinge in colour. This is all about exuberance and show, with a deliciously rewarding impression of millefeuille layered with tonka cream, fig, kiwi and pannacotta. Generously full and so hedonistically pleasurable!

  • Neal Martin, November 2024, Score: 91-93

The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet Champs Gain 1er Cru offers plenty of tropical notes of passionfruit, nectarine and white peach on the nose. It's simpatico with delineation and typicité, though still identifiable as a Puligny. The palate is very well balanced with more weight than the Hameau de Blagny. More tropical notes mold the finish with a dash of ginger on the aftertaste. This will be difficult to resist in its youth but its intensity suggests it will age with aplomb. Drink 2026-2040.

  • Jancis Robinson, January 2025, Score: 16.5

This is very much better than the village wine! Real depth and character and balance here in a true Puligny premier cru.

  • Jasper Morris MW, October 2024, Score: 92-94

Last plot at the northern end, adjacent to La Truffière. Mid lemon and lime colour. At first, I cannot really pick up any nose. Perhaps a little lime and some coconut. Begins to show a floral edge. The palate has a greater depth of white orchard fruit though, both apples and pears, with fine length. A little more depth of soil here.

Region

Puligny Montrachet

Puligny Montrachet is known as the most delicate of the white wine appellations south of Beaune. Its wines tend to be linear and mineral offering delicate floral and orchard fruit aromatics. Its village and premier cru vineyard area total slightly over 200 hectares but almost half of them are premier cru making them one of the highest proportions of quality vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. Several grand cru vineyards are present, the most notable being Le Montrachet and Bâtard Montrachetwhich it shares with neighbouring Chassagne, but it does have the extraordinary Chevalier Montrachet and the tiny Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet all to itself. There are a handful of red wines grown, but they tend to be quite light and need to be drunk in their youth.
