  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024

Cathiard own a quarter of a hectare of vines in this Grand Cru, and their plot is enviably sited in the southern-most corner of the vineyard within a stone’s throw of La Romanée Conti. The 2023 is a seductive tour de force, showcasing the very best of Burgundian Pinot Noir. Vibrant aromatics of cranberry, raspberries and pomegranate sing an irresistible siren-song, eventually giving way to notes of wild herbs, violets and sun-drenched stones. Richly concentrated and powerful, the palate is nonetheless filled with joyful fruit sweetness that’s enlivened by a shimmering line of blood orange acidity. Suave, enveloping tannins bring an effortless and self-assured grace to the wine, which has a long, complex and simply delicious finish.

  • Burghound, January 2025, Score: 93-96

A relatively high-toned and super-fresh nose freely reveals exuberantly spicy notes of red currant, pomegranate, anise, rose petal, exotic tea, violet and lavender. The lilting yet impressively intense medium weight flavors are also not especially dense but do deliver stunningly good depth and persistence on the overtly austere, balanced and sleek finale. This silky effort is exceptionally classic and a wine that should also age effortlessly.

  • Jasper Morris MW, November 2024, Score: 95-98

A vibrant ruby colour. The bouquet is higher toned than Malconsorts, all clearly in vivacious red berry fruit. The palate is more linear than the Malconsorts, less seductive perhaps, but with a classical backbone, which will show its class with considerably longer in bottle. The finish is both persistent and exquisite.

Traditionally, Burgundy domaines are renowned for being minute in size, and he is definitely amongst the smallest. In addition, he has some of the most exceptional vineyards, which read like a Who's Who list of the Côte de Nuits, many of which are located next to grand crus sites. This combination is lethal for allocations. Too little wine with too many open hands all waiting for their fair share. SInce 2011 his talented son, Sébastien, has been running the domaine.Read less

Romanée Saint Vivant

Romanée-St-Vivant, which takes its name from the monastery of St-Vivant founded in c. 900, is a Grand Cru vineyard in Vosne-Romanée on the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy. It is the largest of Vosne-Romanée's six Grands Crus and produces red wine only. The vineyard is located on the slope to the north of the town of Vosne-Romanée and is the nearest vineyard to this village. Romanée-Saint-Vivant's soils are deep and rich in clay and lime, which means the wines of Romanée-St-Vivant are usually lighter and less powerful than its neighbours'. Domaine de la Romanée Conti is the largest proprietor, owning over half of the area's 9.5 ha.
