Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024
‘Thank you for visiting Savigny’ should read the sign at Les Peuillets, the final Premier Cru vineyard before arriving at the slopes of Beaune. Here the warm, sandy soils produce an affable style of wine and Girardin is the master of such expression. There is a plushness to the wine, where sweet black cherry and bramble fruit is paired with toasted oak and delicate floral notes. With 10 months in barrel, the tannins are fine-grained, while there is terrific freshness and a pink peppercorn spice to the finish.
Region
Savigny-lès-Beaune
The picturesque village of Savigny-lès-Beaune, just to the north of Beaune, is a relatively prolific producer in Burgundian terms. Less serious than its neighbours, Pommard and Volnay, these are nonethless delicious wines - perfumed, delicate and elegant. A tiny amount of white is produced.
