There is a similarity with the Paladin Hill, but the difference is barrel selection. This comes from Northern Wilyabrup, plus some estate grown chardonnay and some Karridale chardonnay. All barrel fermentation and 10 % new oak. A combination of barriques and puncheons. It’s loaded with light lemony grapefruit and melony fruit characters. The minerally acidity provides an excellent balance. Small amount of malolactic fermentation. Supremely balanced.

Bright and vibrant, the Eightfold nose is teeming with freshly grated lemon zest and sweeter notes of white peach, as well as subtle touches of brioche. With 9 months on lees and 10% new oak, there is a textural richness on the palate, yet a tributary of salinity cuts through to keep the wine feeling light and refreshing. Proof that Burgundian elegance doesn’t require Burgundian prices.

Carrying on the tradition today, Darren Haunold says "Our commitment to making the best wines stems purely from our passion. It has been said that you can taste the love in our wines." The Haunold Family vineyards unique margaret river wine region location is its greatest asset. Its relative proximity to the Indian Ocean, Geographe Bay and the Geographe Air drainage plateau creates ideal conditions for vine development. Such strong maritime influences effectively moderate temperatures. Complimented by unique topographical influences, we are less prone to the negative effects of summer rainfall and our more northern position allows for greater sunlight hours. Consistent, well drained gravely loams, create a soil composition of comparable excellence.Read less

Region

Margaret River

Certainly the best wine area in Western Australia, if not the whole country. The idyllic scenery of Margaret River (surf-lapped rocky coast, towering karri forest, abundant wildlife) has only been home to wine production since the 1970s. Hard to believe given the quality of the Chardonnays and Cabernets produced by the likes of Leeuwin, Cullen, Moss Wood and Vasse Felix. Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon all also thrive here. The climate is mild, tempered by the Indian Ocean and the drying wind known as the Freemantle Doctor, and infertile red loam soils are the most sought after for viticulture.
