  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, April 2025, Score: 90-92

A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot, this is bright and fresh with summer currant aromatics, and a herbal nuance of fresh thyme and basil. The palate is full of life and energy, with a fine and precise fresh red fruit character. The tannins come through on the finish, providing both restraint and depth. Its early reserve bodes extremely well for great bottle ageing potential.

  • Neal Martin, April 2025, Score: 90-92

The 2024 Duhart-Milon was picked between September 24 and October 8 and matured in 50% new oak. The aromatics take their time to coalesce. It's a little herbaceous at first although that ebbs away to reveal quite pure blackcurrant, raspberry and Morello scents. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a mixture of red and black fruit and a dab of licorice toward the finish that just tapers slightly. Overall, this is a decent Pauillac in an old-school style that I approve of.

  • Antonio Galloni, April 2025, Score: 91-93

The 2024 Duhart-Milon opens with strong Cabernet Sauvignon inflections. Blue-toned fruit, lavender, spice and dried herbs open first, all framed by brisk acids and supporting tannins that lend shape. The 2024 includes 14% press wines, about the norm here. This is a very promising Duhart.

  • Wine Advocate, April 2025, Score: 90-93

A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot, the 2024 Duhart-Milon was cropped at 32 hectoliters per hectare, and it was here that the Lafite team concluded the harvest. Offering up aromas of cassis and red berries mingled with hints of violets, pen ink, licorice and toasty oak, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy, with a round, integrated, charming profile, concluding with a moderately persistent finish.

  • James Suckling, May 2025, Score: 93-94

A lighter vintage that highlights finesse rather than power or concentration. Fresh blue fruit with a medium body and fine-grained tannins. Fresh but supple in a refined, medium-long finish. 78% cabernet sauvignon and 22% merlot.

  • Matthew Jukes, April 2025, Score: 17.5

This is superb Duhart with sleek, shimmeringly clean flanks and a long, smooth, refined finish. There is a sense of coolness and calm throughout, and it never seems to break step or feel too urgent. Unlike last year’s wine, which seemed tense and eager, this is Zen-like and refined, and the finish is generous, with discreet ripples of tannin and acidity, which further heighten the experience. I hope the price falls sufficiently for newcomers to Duhart to take the plunge. They will not be disappointed.

  • Jane Anson, April 2025, Score: 92

Shows density and balance, with leafy but fragrant aromatics that unfurl slowly, and bright acidity that is not overpowering to the blueberry and blackcurrant fruits. The skill of the Lafite team is clear here, and this is a classically balanced Duhart that will age well. Harvest September 25 to October 4, 32hl/h yield, above the Pauillac average. Drink 2029-2040.

Producer

Château Duhart-Milon

Owned since 1962 by the Rothschilds of Château Lafite, this wine is often overlooked. Yet it usually comes through with impressive results, its style replicating its more renowned big brother with outstanding purity and finesse.

Region

Pauillac

Due south of St Estèphe lies the appellation of Pauillac, the king of Left Bank communes. It is home to three first growths as well as a plethora of other classified growths. Pauillac's renowned well-draining, gravelly soils enable its dominant grape Cabernet Sauvignon to reach fantastic heights of complexity and concentration. As a result, Pauilac's wines tend to be full-bodied with compact tannins and good freshness. Its aromatics are often what one associates with classic Bordeaux: pencil shavings, black currant and occasional mint. Some of the most famous châteaux of the commune are Latour, Mouton Rothschild, Lafite Rothschild, Pichon Baron, Pichon Lalande and Lynch Bages.
