  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2025

Due to its exposure, this is always one of the first places to be picked during harvest. The fruit comes from three separate locations, and it is the site in Roncières in particular, with its 95-year-old vines, which gives the wine its infinite quality and depth. One of the estate’s highest yielding Premiers Crus in 2024 at 30 hl per ha, this is scented and floral, reminiscent of spring flowers and honeysuckle. Full of vibrant energy, a delightful cuvée for early drinking.

  • Jasper Morris MW, July 2025, Score: 90-92

These are the domaine’s oldest vines, 75+ in Sécher, made in a mix of tank and demi-muids. Pale lemon colour. An impressive intensity of a fresh lemon fruit on the nose. Now more white fruit on the palate, just the right apple note, with some citrus, a sense of tension further back on the palate. Interesting in its lean and classic style. Drink from 2028-2033. Four stars.

The estate remained in family ownership for 200 years until Erwan Faiveley purchased Billaud-Simon for Joseph Faiveley in 2015. This represents a new era for the Faiveley family, one of the Côte d’Or’s most significant vineyard owners, now investing their expertise and commitment to producing great wines in the Yonne and Chablis with approximately 18 hectares of exceptional vineyard holdings including four premiers crus and four grands crus. Under the guidance of Wine Director Olivier Bailly, they remain respectful to the traditions of the estate and continue to sell the wines under the Billaud-Simon name. The style is graceful and pure. Olivier seeks to make wines with true appellational authenticity. Oak is kept to minimal levels, only used judiciously, allowing the natural fruit content to express itself to a maximum.Read less

Region

Chablis

Chablis is world famous for its fine white wines produced from the Chardonnay grape. The best vineyards are perched above the winding Serein river and are south or southwest facing ensuring better ripeness in this cooler climate. It has four appellation levels. Petit Chablis is the most modest and simple followed by Chablis, which is the largest and most prominent. Premier cru Chablis is the third largest appellation and encompasses almost 40 different climats or vineyards including the famed Montée de Tonnerre, Fourchaumes and Mont de Milieu. The most noble of all Chablis are the grand crus of which there are 7 climats in total Bougros, Les Preuses, Vaudésir, Grenouilles, Valmur, Les Clos and Blanchot. The wines of Chablis have remained some of the best value in the world, particularly their superb grand crus which can easily cost 50% less than its closest revered white grand cru neighbour, Corton Charlemagne.
