  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2025

The domaine own a sizeable 2.6-hectare plot in this Premier Cru, which is named after the slabs, or ‘laves’, of clay that make up its soils, and some of their vines date back as far as 1956. The combination of clay soils and old-vine fruit makes for a particularly exciting cuvée. Aromas of fresh cherry and raspberry and a dash of clove. Bright and energetic, with fresh crunchy cranberry fruit characters, a very precise Pinot mid-palate and a rewarding creaminess on the finish.

  • Burghound, January 2026, Score: 90-92

A very pretty if decidedly reserved nose features a cool floral, earth, spice and discreet wood nuances. There is a lovely sense of both refinement and underlying tension to the utterly delicious and overtly stony flavors that terminate in a focused, lightly austere and impressively long finale. Lovely and worth considering. Outstanding. Drink 2030+

Producer

Domaine Chandon de Briailles

The sibling team at this stunning domaine (Francois and Claude de Nicolay) is most definitely a winning one. Their biggest influence has been to convert the estate firstly to organic and now to biodynamic methods of viticulture and vinification. The wines focus on sensual flavours and refinement, these are not powerful, but the aged vines allow for wines of extraordinary texture and complexity.

Region

Savigny-lès-Beaune

The picturesque village of Savigny-lès-Beaune, just to the north of Beaune, is a relatively prolific producer in Burgundian terms. Less serious than its neighbours, Pommard and Volnay, these are nonethless delicious wines - perfumed, delicate and elegant. A tiny amount of white is produced.
