Producer

Waddesdon Rothschild Collection

Carefully curated by the team at Waddesdon Wine Rothschild Collection, these Pays d'Oc wines launched in 2021 and sourced from the Languedoc are a stunning example of the extraordinary wines produced in the South of France.

Region

Vin de Pays d'Oc

The Languedoc covers a vast swathe of France from close to the Rhone at Nimes in the east round to Carcassone and Limoux looking up to the foothills of the Pyrenees in the west. Historically a bulk wine area, dominated by the co-operatives, there is an increasing focus on quality. It encompasses many interesting appellations - Pic St Loup, Faugeres, Minervois, inter alia. The regional appellation is used for wines outside these smaller areas or for producers who are not complying with the rules in one way or another. This is often in the choice of non-local grape varieties. A lot of relatively straightforward but delicious Chardonnay is produced and Viognier is enjoying a resurgence. Similarly some exceptional Cabernet based wines, such as Mas de Daumas Gassac, are coming out of this area.
