  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, April 2026, Score: 94-96

Such an inviting nose, leaping out of the glass and tempting you in – full of expressive, polished fruit, just-ripe plums, cassis and a striking florality. The present but well-managed tannins help bring structure and poise to the charming fruit, tannins than almost melt into the wine as you drink it. The refreshing line of acidity brings it all together, providing a wonderful flow to the wine. Pure and really very good indeed.

  • Antonio Galloni, April 2026, Score: 94-96

The 2025 d'Issan is fabulous. Inky and racy to the core, the 2025 Issan has so much to offer. Crème de cassis, menthol, licorice, cloves, gravel and mocha all meld together in the glass. Sumptuous and seamless with exceptional balance, the 2025 is a real stunner. This is an especially dense d'Issan that reflects the intensity of the year. Tasted two times. Drink 2040-2075.

Producer

Château d'Issan

Many collectors view this château as well worth its status... and they are not alone. For centuries, d'Issan has been a coveted treasure. According to local lore, it was served at thewedding of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry Plantagenet as well as a favourite of Emperor François-Joseph of Austria. Since 1945, the property has been owned by the Cruse family with Emmanuel Cruse at the château's helm.

Region

Margaux

Plump, silky and seductive are the words often used to describe wines from Margaux. Because of their style, they tend to be user friendly and more approachable when young. This is in part due to its terroir which is comprised of the thinnest soil as well as the highest proportion of chunky gravel in all of the Médoc. It drains well but also is it more susceptible to vintage variation. Margaux wines tend to have the highest proportions of Merlot within the core of the Médoc further adding to their ample roundness and openness. Margaux is home to the largest number of classified growths including its namesake first growth, Château Margaux, as well as third growths, Palmer and d'Issan.
