A busy week in the press

On Saturday in The Times, Jane MacQuitty picked 2011 Marsannay Les Longeroies Domaine Charles Audoin as “The Keeper”:

“Marsannay, just south of Dijon, is becoming a serious source of good-value red burgundy and until recently was one of Burgundy’s best-kept secrets. Well-travelled Cyril Audoin took over here in 2000 and has done much to push his family’s domaine to new heights, aided by a new cellar and equipment, especially his four separate lieux-dits vineyards. Tuck into this bold, beetrooty, red burgundy now with coq au vin, or cellar it until 2017 and beyond to allow spicier tobacco and leather scents to emerge.“

We have good stock and the wine is £233.52 per 12 bottles inc VAT.

On the same day Victoria Moore was writing up the hyped 2010 Brunello vintage. She selected some alternatives for those who had missed the buying frenzy, including our Rosso di Montalcino Sorgente Salicutti 2011 – mini-Brunello from a great producer, both delicious and good value. We have just 4 cases left at £119 per 6 bottles inc VAT.

On Wednesday in The Drinks Business’ weekly fine wine round up a feature on the somewhat overlooked 2006 vintage included some pearls of wisdom from our MD in Hong Kong.

“as Tom Stopford-Sackville, managing director of Goedhuis, said: “While most of the reds have entered their drinking window now there is no huge rush, they don’t have the concentration of the 2005s, but they have more to them than the now delicious 2007s, suggesting a good life ahead. The better 1er Crus and the Grand Crus currently sit in that drink or hold category. The village wines are drinking now.”

Although Stopford-Sackville did list a number of 12 and six-bottle cases currently available through Goedhuis ranging from Chandon de Briailles’ Volnay 1er cru Les Caillerets to Mommessin’s Clos de Tart, as with most Burgundies over five years old there is generally very little stock in merchants’ hands”
