The 2015 is a very complete Cos, made from 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, with only 39% of the fruit making into the Grand Vin. This is a thoughtful, harmonious and elegant Cos, with a fresh finish and a complex mineral core, and one of the finest wines made in the Médoc this year.
Cos d’Estournel is the first property you come to as you leave Pauillac, with its vineyards bordering those of Ch Lafite Rothschild. The quality of the terroir has never been in doubt and the quality of the wines in recent vintages, including the Parker 100 point 2009, has been very impressive.Beautifully put together; an exciting wine that will grow in complexity and flavour.Decanter 95

A very dense deep opaque colour with pronounced aromas of fresh coffee beans and dark black fruits. In the palate it shows its youth, whilst having all the component parts: a strong driven tannic structure, good richness of fruit and open freshness. It will benefit from further months in cask to integrate and marry completely. Drink 2023-2035. Goedhuis, Score: 93-95
This shows what great selection did in the northern Mêdoc. Big surprise. Really excellent. Full body, chewy and rich tannins and loads of ripe fruit. Black currants, blue berries. It has hot and ripe tannins yet cool fruit. James Suckling, Score: 97-98

Stunning nose, superb control and great poise, this is a serious and rather thoughtful Cos with terrific refinement. It seems to be sitting quietly and running over in its mind the complexities of the vintage and the success it has made of itself. Wonderfully calm initially and then smooth on the mid-palate, the tannins build and then storm the palate on the finish but rather than leaving your mouth dry, they then fade and leave your mouth watering but not wounded. It seems that any potential aggression in the tannins was ameliorated by the hot summer. This is a superb wine which starts quietly, builds then retreats to an incredibly calm and long finish. Interestingly, the yields were lower in 2014 but more wine was made, whereas the yields were slightly higher in 2015 because of the perfect flowering but more selection was made and this meant that they made fractionally more wine this year.
