This morning has seen the release of Ch La Lagune at £345 per 12 IB. While classified as an Haut-Medoc, this highly respected Third Growth estate borders the Margaux appellation which has been so successful in 2015.
Ch La Lagune was purchased by the Frey family in 2000 and has benefited from plenty of investment since then. In 2015 they have created a wine that has all the hallmarks of the vintage; charming, focused and fresh. This is a wine that demands attention – highly recommended.

As always a very stylish and polished wine from this fine estate on the edge of Margaux. Masses of plums and dark fruits, this is a graceful and giving style, with finely balanced tannins and a lovely, moreish finish. Drink 2022-2033. Goedhuis, Score: 91-93
The 2015 La Lagune has a rich and slightly heady bouquet with lavish black cherry and cassis fruit that need to obtain more definition and composure. This seems to be trying a little hard. The palate is ripe and rounded on the entry, the tannin here a little stringy with a straightforward, slightly attenuated and saline finish that I hope will flesh out during élevage. This just lacks the sparkle that I discerned in the 2014 last year – let’s see how it turns out in bottle. Neal Martin, Score: 88-90
Unusually deep crimson. Really very luscious on the nose – a full, broad exposition of the vintage on the nose. Heady without being gratuitously sweet. Juicy and lively. Some rigour on the finish as though efforts were consciously made to imbue classic structure. One of the most exciting Lagunes I can remember. Drink 2024-2038 Jancis Robinson, Score: 17
The finesse and beauty in this wine is really something with blueberry, blackberry and licorice character. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a long and gorgeous finish. Tactile and fine. James Suckling, Score: 93-94
From this vintage La Lagune will mention Organic Viticulture on the label. The nose here is heavenly with red and black fruits combining perfectly. There is no trace of oak because it is perfectly integrated at this stage. The mid-palate is silky and tender and the finish is superbly long and ripe with stunning poise and control in the tannins. This is a very well-balanced La Lagune and it has the edge on the superb 2014. Matthew Jukes, Score: 17.5+
The 2015 La Lagune is an absolutely delightful Haut-Médoc with forward fruit, lovely juiciness and tons of personality. Sweet tobacco, cedar, menthol, red cherry and earthy notes abound in this expressive, highly nuanced wine. Antonio Galloni, Score: 88-91
