A busy day for releases, with Ch Pontet Canet 2014 hitting the market this afternoon.
Alfred Tesseron has undoubtedly made a contender for wine of the vintage, the Pontet Canet 2014 is certainly First Growth quality.
In their 10th year of biodynamic farming, the grapes were harvested over 12 days up to 10th October. This is an almost perfect combination of ripe bright fruit, lots of complex dark blackcurrant aromas and flavours, with super fine tannins and a lifting, almost refreshing finish.
Jean-Michel Comme thinks it’s the best wine made here with the exception of 2010. As he said, “2014 was not a good a year as 2010 but we have four more years under biodynamic harvesting”.
I shall leave the last word to Matthew Jukes: “Top class wine signals greatness and inspires emotion – Comme suggests that it either makes you shiver, or shed a tear. Without wanting to fall headlong into this stereotype I can honestly tell you that my spine was tingling from the moment I dipped my nose into this wine and I was still under its spell as I bid owner Alfred Tesseron adieu. 19+”. He is spot on!
