This morning sees the highly anticipated releases from the Cazes stable of a classic Pauillac favourite, Chateau Lynch Bages 2014 (£575ib per 12), and from the same stable, the stunning value Les Ormes de Pez (£160ib per 12). In 2014 both Chateaux have succeeded in encapsulating the finest points of the vintage, producing not only stunning, cellarable wines but pricing them at a level which makes them ‘must buys’ in our opinion.
Les Ormes de Pez from St Estephe highlights the strengths of the Cabernet grape in 2014. It was stunning when we sampled it in Bordeaux a few weeks ago. Rich, sumptuous and oozing dark, voluptuous fruit, this is a top performing Cru Bourgeois that can justify a place in everyone’s cellar for future drinking.
Lynch Bages, a true Goedhuis favourite, is immensely popular in Europe, America and Asia, a testament to the energy of owner Jean-Michel Cazes who has travelled far introducing fine wine drinkers to his fabulous Pauillac estate. This 2014 is classic Lynch in character; muscular, dark and powerful and finely balanced. At £575ib per 12 this release price surpasses our expectations and makes it one of the most attractive 2014 Pauillacs released to date.
(As anticipated, the Lynch Bages sold out quickly)
