Mouton unveils Koons-designed 2010 label

American Sculptor, Jeff Koons, joins the ranks of many a famous artist including Salvador Dali, Francis Bacon and even the Prince of Wales by becoming the latest designer for the renowned Chateau Mouton Rothschild. The Chateau has commissioned contemporary artists to design its wine labels every vintage since 1945 paying in wine for their services.

Better known for his iconic sculptures, Koon’s 2010 vintage label features the Birth of Venus overdrawn with silver designs. The chateau describes how the drawing “turns into a Venus with Vessel – both the cup which holds and the ship which, under a bright sun, bears off into the distance an exquisite wine… Surely Mouton Rothschild 2010!“

The 2010 Mouton Rothschild is at present the most expensive of the last decade’s vintages last trading on Liv-Ex for £5,728 per 12. (Liv-Ex Blog) Parker scored this vintage an impressive 97-100 points.
