Oz Clarke's dream dozen Bordeaux chateaux for value

Archive

Two of our favourite wines which we have followed for many years have been chosen by Oz Clarke as part of his ‘dream dozen’ for Bordeaux value:

Roc de Cambes
Bourg’s superstar made by St-Emilion’s philosopher-prince François Mitjaville. Rich, tart cherry syrup brushed with herbs and warm limestone. (£41.78/bt inc VAT (2009))

Château Puygueraud (£12.18/bt inc VAT (2009))
The star performer in Francs for more than 20 years – the 1985 is still in prime form – and run by Nicolas Thienpont (other family members own Vieux Château Certan and Le Pin). The cool soils and high altitude give dark ripe wine with the friendly rasp of herbs and a subtle floral scent.
