2014 is an important year at Palmer as it was 200 years ago that the property was purchased by Charles Palmer. Both the Grand Vin and Alter Ego have excelled this year under talented wine maker Thomas Duroux. They are both elegant and highly perfumed, with an intense concentrated core of red and black fruits. He has made two truly impressive wines that will give extraordinary pleasure.
Any drinker who loves the beauty of a classic Margaux should consider them. The Ch Palmer itself is a glorious wine and is unquestionably one of the wines of the vintage, whilst the Second wine, Alter Ego, really does look like a star buy. It possesses the same fruit flavours, elegance and charm as its big brother and, as always, is a little more forward in style, smoother and easier. This is a superb second wine which is very well made and at £30 per bottle IB is an affordable way to enjoy the wines from this famous estate.
Both of these wines are a great way to celebrate Palmer’s 200 year history; you will not be disappointed whichever you choose.
